Dear
reader, do you
know that, as you are reading this editorial, it is raining
in your compressed air installation? We guess you donīt, otherwise
you wouldnīt let it happen.
Air purification and treatment should be the first concern in
any manufacturing process as itīs the starting point of any
pneumatic system; but in reality, itīs neglected so many times.
Therefore this month we are going to invite you to start from
the very beginning...
The air in the atmosphere contains water vapour and during its
compression, as it is pressurized, it can allow less and less
water as vapour. If we compress the air enough, some of the
vapour could become liquid. However, as all of us know, the
temperature rises during the compression, preventing the vapour
from turning into liquid. Still when that air enters the downstream
piping... and cools down, the air cannot hold any longer that
vapour and this vapour condenses into water. This is a simple
and well-known physical phenomenon.
In your day-to-day business this translates into water droplets
all over your installation. This moisture is currently corroding
your pipes, your end line equipment and could be easily spoiling
your final product.
In conclusion, If you like indoor rain, maybe you shouldnīt
continue reading, but for those interested in drying this topic
out, we welcome you to the March edition of SMCīs e-Matters. |

To
close this monthīs edition of the e-Matters we would like to
put the concept of the Air Dryer into numbers...
If
we tell you that the amount of water you could have now easily
running through your pipes would be as much as 150 wine bottles,
would we be convincing you to take more action on this topic? |

And
if you are not living in southern Europe and only
dream of 30 degrees Celsius, you could still fill
269 beer bottles (67,4 L = 0.25l per beer bottle)
at 25 degrees Celsius with 70% humidity! |
