Dear Reader.
With all airlines suffering the financial effects of substantially increased fuel costs, many are now considering reducing their existing baggage allowances to reduce aircraft weight or are actually charging customers for carrying hold baggage on flights!

This new development will mean that in many cases air travellers are either reviewing what items they need to pack in their personal luggage or in some instances passengers are now considering only taking 10-15 kilo´s of hand baggage when they travel.

Obviously this need for reduced luggage weight will cause other problems as travellers will now have to consider luggage size which is very similar to the challenge also faced by many machine builders today with the current trend to make machines both smaller and compact.

In many cases our R&D experts - many of whom are based near our headquarters in Tokyo with its municipal population in excess of 35 million people and where people really do understand the ever present need to be space efficient - are focused on developing the most innovative, space saving, high performance products in the marketplace.

A good example of this space saving product development is our new Series CVQ, the only compact cylinder in the market with an integrated solenoid valve.

Interestingly the theme for this year´s International United Nations celebration is CO2 - Kick the C02 Habit!

With a focus towards a lower carbon economy - something that affects all of us in both our work and home environments - World Environment Day will try to encourage us to start working to address the problems of global warming by decreasing our CO2 emissions.
