Dear Reader
Have you ever felt “Holiday Pressure”?
If just the smallest mention of the word - holiday - brings you out in a hot sweat – you’re not alone!

According to some recent research undertaken at London’s Heathrow Airport by a leading neurophysiologist, Dr. David Lewis, the pulse rates of many travellers in the terminals were higher than people undertaking intense physical exercise in a gymnasium. Dr Lewis’s findings showed that in some cases passengers’ heart rate rose up to 200 beats per minute which is almost four times the resting heart rate of a healthy human.

To put these results into even more perspective, when these passengers also had their blood pressure checked - in some cases, the readings were higher than those experienced by riot policemen - when confronting an angry stone throwing mob - or even those experienced by top Formula 1 racing driver´s.

And that´s only just the stress at the airport – without considering the other major family holiday stresses such as; praying that you´ve picked the right destination and accommodation, getting everything finished and covered at work, packing and planning and generally just trying to keep everyone happy!

Unfortunately, in these cases, SMC cannot help you overcome this pressure... However, we can definitely help ease your pneumatic concerns!

With this in mind, welcome to this special summer edition of e-matters, our new, very cool, electronic newsletter in Europe.

   INNOVATION AT A GLANCE

ARP - our newly improved Direct Operated Precision Regulator Series
Precise pressure adjustment with outstanding sensitivity

Our newly improved regulator Series ARP - guarantees both precision & repeatability - thanks to its precise pressure adjustment - as low as 0.2MPa and extremely accurate repeatability - within a 1%.

Senitivity has also been dramatically improved and they are now within 0,2% of Full Scale.

Extrafeatures of this newly - improved - modular regulator range include digital pressure gauges fitted as standard and reverse flow functionality.

Further benefits off selecting the ARP series are the substantial reduction of air consumption - up to 80% less than our previous models.

So in summary, the new Series ARP offers - improved performance, using less energy, meaning peace of mind and more money savings for you; it´s as simple as that!

   More Innovations this month!

ZSE / ISE 30A – Improved Digital Pressure Switch
     - Reduced setting time – settings can be copied onto 10 slave sensors at once; ensuring significantly reduced labour costs!

- Easier connectability – now available with one-touch fittings.
- Smaller – more compact, shorter in length.
- When compared to our previous models ISE/ZSE 30A offer - a compound pressure option and two extra output options.

MY2H_MY2HT-XB20 – Mechanically jointed rodless cylinder featuring an Stroke adjusting unit with adjustable bolt specifications
This new adjusting bolt design decreases the time delay that´s normally experienced in cylinder performance when shock absorption is used.

Similarly, these new cylinders maintain and adopt exactly the same features as our extremely popular Series MY2H_MY2HT - compact, low profile, great load capacity and with the further option of being able to handle larger work pieces mounted directly on the cylinder.

As August is traditionally considered to be the main month for taking holidays – we will also take a break in the production and distribution of e-matter’s.
So, just to confirm, e-matters will not be published in August, but after a relaxing break, we will be back with even more topical news from SMC in September.

So, to all those readers planning to take a break in August we would especially like to wish you a safe, relaxing and enjoyable vacation!!.

Some Basic Information from our Experts
Things to consider when buying a regulator - which are sometimes forgotten!

Machines and machine tools using compressed air in their operation require the correct air pressure to function efficiently. Too much air pressure and they will literally be overpowered and their life expectancy will be reduced accordingly.
On the other hand, if a machine or machine tool is under-powered – without sufficient air pressure - the performance can suffer dramatically.
Obviously these facts are fairly obvious, but as we (SMC) are committed to help ensure maximum pneumatic performance, we thought that it might prove helpful to review some of the basic information when selecting regulators.
So, when selecting and sizing a regulator the important factors you need to consider are:

1. Normal line pressure.
2. Minimum and maximum required pressure – as a guideline, please consider that the minimum and maximum pressure should be within the middle third of the regulator range.
3. Maximum flow required, at a given regulated pressure.
4. Required accuracy
5. Environment and Place – operating conditions and available space
6. Pipe size
7. Regulator adjustment frequency – always consider the application, adjusting method, and user.
