Extending
the boundaries of regular telecommunications
Dear Reader
Can you imagine having a telephone that can
display your emotions?
Well now it’s a reality, thanks to award winning
designer, developer and manufacture of networking
solutions, D-Link, and their FuChat phone. Initially
developed as a next generation cordless phone
that can make both landline and Internet calls,
the FuChat has in-built sensors that can gauge
the changes in a user’s voice and body temperature.
If you´re feeling depressed, a sad face appears
on the back of the handset  ,furious ,
happy
and so on! Its creators claim that the FuChat
enhances the emotional aspects of communication
and, by being conscious of your emotions throughout
a telephone call, helps ensure your superiority!
Whilst in theory this sounds like a useful development,
we´re not 100% convinced that the FuChat´s emotional
feedback will actually be a benefit when in
the evening, just as you’re about to sit down
for dinner, the phone rings for the tenth time
with a telecoms supplier offering you the best
Internet connexion deal in the world!
Do we really need a device to let us know that
we’re getting hot under the collar and are about
to go ballistic at the telephone sales person
on the other end of the line?
Unlike the FuChat, this month´s SMC e-newsletter
won’t give you feedback on an emotional level,
but it may just provide you with some key ways
