Dear
Reader.
When researching for this edition of e-Matters
we stumbled upon something created in Japan -
the home of the SMC Corporation - which made us
smile.
Whilst completely unconnected with SMC or our
products, in an effort to bring you a little light
relief from today´s difficult economic climate
we thought that you might also find it amusing.
Have
you ever heard of the Japanese word
 Chindogu
?
Coined by Kenji Kawakami – a Japanese magazine
editor and investor – the word is used to describe
the art of inventing a gadget that appears to
be perfectly useful but in reality it´s something
that´s perfectly useless. For this reason Chindogu´s
are sometimes described as "unuseless".
Following
the global success of the book "The Art of
Chindogu", enthusiasts can now join the Chindogu
International Society ( www.Chindogu.com )
and swap unuseless ideas with other Chindogu fans
around the world.
Of
course, Chindogu´s are not something that should
ever be associated with SMC and our innovative
solutions as shown below, but from a FUN perspective
only, we hope that you – like us – can see the
humorous side to all Chindogu inventions.
We
