Is the Future going to be Smaller ?
Dear Reader.
According to a recent news story in the UK media, the future is going to be both warmer and smaller.
This statement follows a 20 year research project undertaken in Hita, a small Scottish island, where biologists have found that year-on-year the local sheep are getting considerably smaller!
Obviously this trend has presented an interesting puzzle given that most animals are generally getting bigger and especially in Hita where its cool climate would normally lead to animals getting heavier to withstand the cold.
As with many other scientific findings currently, biologists have now put this down to, yes you`ve probably guessed it - climate change!
It seems that with temperatures getting warmer, survival rates of young sheep have dramatically risen resulting in more adult sheep. And, although less natural food is available because itīs hotter they donīt need to eat as much.
Just a thought, but if climate change can make sheep smaller, maybe humans might also enjoy this phenomenon and those extra kilos some us are carrying might just disappear naturally!
Anyway continuing with the topic of size, checkout our new compact cylinder and valve unit in this October edition of e-Matters and youīll hopefully agree with us - that the future is definitely going to be smaller.

  INNOVATION AT A GLANCE

CVQM - a Compact Guide Rod Cylinder with Integrated Solenoid Valve
Reliable and accurate - offering both space and energy savings, plus reduced installation time.

This new, unique, combination of cylinder and valve offers several advantages! The guided rod cylinder allows a great lateral load resistance and offers a superior non rotating accuracy: 0.01°

And, as itīs 2 products in 1 - a Guide Rod Cylinder + Solenoid Valve in the same unit - space savings are ensured, installation time is reduced and labour costs lowered.

Offering high response speed performance - as both components are integrated - response time is considerable improved and air consumption reduced.
Mounting options
Tap mounting
through hole

Totally interchangeable with one of our most popular products: C(D)Q2

Our SMC specialist recommends it for: applications where strong lateral load resistance
and high non-rotational accuracy are required.

   More Innovations this month!

ZP2V - Vacuum saving valve

A Vacuum Check Valve thatīs specially designed for optimal vacuum generation; the valve closes when there is no contact between the vacuum pad and the work piece.
This achieves:
• A dramatic reduction in the loss of vacuum pressure when there is no work piece, resulting in less energy consumption and reduced energy costs.
• Savings in both installation time and operational downtime - as there is no need to shutdown the operation during maintenance or when changing work pieces.

This product offers a simplification of the control circuit.

Our SMC specialist recommends it for:
Handling processes which involve an optimal management of vacuum resources and / or when handling delicate work pieces without leaving any contact marks.

SGH - Coolant valve for high pressure

The only product on the market specially developed for use with coolants.

Key benefits are:
• Long life - up to 3 million cycles
• Low Power consumption - as little as 0.35 W (24VDC)
• Wide flow rate - with high pressure (up to 7.0MPa)
• Resistant to contamination and Ozone - Fluorine rubber materials and in-built filter

Our SMC specialist recommends it for:
The machine-tool industry and specifically for high speed grinding, drilling, lubricating, cooling and swarf blowing applications.
