Six degrees of separation
Dear Reader.
In 1990 a play written by the American playwright John Guare suggested that a person, from any where in the world, could be connected in some way to a maximum of five other people.
Known as the Six degrees of separation, the theory considered that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is at most six steps away from any other person on Earth.
Often used to highlight those “what a small world occurrences” which most of us experience from time to time, we´re sure that some people will find it comforting to hear that we’re so closely connected and for others it will possibly mean hours of frustration trying to work out if they’re connected in anyway to someone who is famous or fabulously wealthy!
Whilst you might consider spending a few day dreaming minutes wondering if you could be connected to Gisele Bündchen or Heidi Klum or, for our female readers, possibly Hugh Jackman, in this edition of Matters, we’d like to continue with same theme by showing you some real life examples of how SMC can help you keep well connected in 2010.
