Dear Reader.
It would be foolish to disregard the effects of the current
global economic slowdown, but for some European manufacturers
2011 has been a year of recovery, with a return to almost
pre-recession trading conditions.
According to the Fortune Global 500, nearly 40% of the
top 500 industrial companies in the world have headquarters
in Europe with automotive, medical, chemical, food and
electronics manufacturing industries leading the way.
Interestingly, Europe's thriving manufacturing sector
still continues to account for a large share of the world's
industrial production and many business experts are predicting
a strong continued investment in European manufacturing
during 2012.
Obviously as the world leaders in pneumatics, with an
expanding range of factory automation products, we applaud
this action and are also pleased to confirm our continued
investment in R&D activities throughout the year.
With a constant focus on reducing manufacturing costs
through lean manufacturing and maximising synergy and
improving process sustainability through energy efficiency,
to help support European manufacturers we have created
a number of specialist industry teams over the past 25
years, who are solely dedicated to one industry sector.
Their extensive knowledge of the automotive, food and
packaging, life science and electronics (including photovoltaic)
manufacturing is extensive and our range of industry specific
products developed through their close working relationship
with our customers in these fields continues to dramatically
grow.
So, in this first 2012 edition of e-Matters, weŽd like
to highlight our work in a number of European industries
and at the same time feature some of our key industry
products.
On behalf of the SMC in Europe, we wish you every success
in 2012
