SMC received “net-zero target” certification from SBT initiative

SMC is pleased to announce that we have received certification from the Science Based Targets (SBT) initiative*¹, an international certification body for climate change, for our “net-zero target” to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our entire value chain, including Scopes 1, 2, and 3*².

We have been certified by SBT in June 2024 for our short-term targets to reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions by FY2030. We have now been certified by SBT for our long-term targets to achieve net-zero for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by FY2040 and for Scope 3 emissions by FY2050.

SMC will continue to promote environmentally conscious initiatives across the entire group and contribute to the realization of a sustainable future.

*¹ Established in 2015 by WWF, CDP, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the United Nations Global Compact, the initiative aims to support companies in advancing science-based GHG emissions reduction efforts to help achieve the Paris Agreement’s “1.5°C target."

*² Scope１：CO₂ emissions produced by our own fuel consumption
　Scope２：CO₂ emissions produced through the consumption of energy supplied by other companies.
　 Scope３：Indirect emissions related to business activities, such as the purchase of raw materials, product delivery, and energy consumption when customers use SMC products.
