Los robots, que eran algo casi exclusivo de las cadenas de producción de automóviles, se están incorporando hoy día en todos los sectores y procesos productivos. Más allá de las operaciones tradicionales de fabricación, inspección y embalaje, los robots realizan tareas que van desde la minería y la exploración espacial hasta la cirugía y la investigación de laboratorio, e incluso la recogida de fruta. Con un abanico tan amplio de aplicaciones, los robots actuales demandan una característica clave: la flexibilidad.
