Supply chain disruptions, including product failure or stock shortages, can cause serious damage to a company's profitability, shareholder value and reputation, at an average cost of €250,000 per annum.
However, an efficient and trusted supply chain, together with the ability to source high quality stock quickly, can make a real difference to a company's performance and credibility. In an emergency situation, it can also mean the difference between continued production and costly downtime.
In response, SMC, the world's leader in pneumatics, has further strengthened its stock holding facility and delivery network to ensure that customers can access the products they need, when they need them.
The company's newly extended 24000m² European Central Warehouse, based in Antwerp, removes the need for customers to hold high stock levels and provides an efficient response in an emergency.
Thanks to SMC's Fast-Track delivery service, over 30,000 products can be delivered within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the destination, making it one of the most reliable and efficient of its kind in its sector, helping to avoid disruption to the manufacturing process and driving stock holding efficiency.
SMC said: "We understand that our customers do not want the burden and cost of holding their own stock so we provide a reliable, fast and cost effective solution. Our central warehouse is supported by a local stock warehousing function in our 30 European subsidiaries. So, for our customers in Europe, we hold sufficient stock and, more importantly, we can deliver it to them in 24 or 48 hours. It also removes the uncertainty in an emergency situation as our customers know that we can get product to them quickly."
With over 11,000 basic products and more than 620,000 variations, SMC customers are supported by a team of 4,500 sales engineers across the world.
