Produce nitrogen from compressed air with new membrane generator from SMC

SMC launches IN778 – a compact membrane generator producing nitrogen from compressed air, without any power supply. This solution is ideal for applications where a continuous nitrogen supply is required, for example in the food and pharmaceutical industries and in tire repair shops. The generator is compact and adapted for modular assembly with SMC's air treatment, making it easy to integrate into a machine or at the point of use.

The IN778 uses compressed air to generate up to 100 l/min (ANR) of nitrogen gas at an N2 concentration of 95%, and 20 l/min (ANR) at 99.9%. The compact design makes the nitrogen generator easy to install directly at the point of use and is ideal for narrow spaces. Since no power supply is required, both installation and operation are simplified.

The IN778 is an excellent alternative to gas bottles and enables an uninterrupted supply of nitrogen gas in applications such as:

  • Food and beverage packaging to extend shelf life and preserve appearance

  • Blanketing and blow-drying of medical products to avoid contamination

  • Sterile and controlled environments in pharmaceutical production

  • Tire inflation for improved tire performance

A modular connection with SMC's air preparation equipment, provides a compact assembly and makes it easy to dimension and install the nitrogen generator. The exhaust air achieves class 2 according to ISO 8573-1:2010, which means low humidity and high quality.

"With the IN778, we offer a simple and maintenance-free solution for nitrogen production directly at the point of use. The compact design and high N2 concentration make it ideal for modern production environments where simplicity and continuity are crucial and you want to get away from handling gas bottles," says Mattias Sundberg, Product Manager at SMC.
