Hygiene is everything in life sciences. After all, in the laboratory, in the clinic or in the doctor's office, it is all about the health and safety of patients. That's why the strictest hygiene regulations apply to medical products - and their manufacture. At Compamed 2019 in Düsseldorf, the leading manufacturers and experts in medical technology will discuss the latest innovations. From 18 to 21 November, SMC will also be presenting its comprehensive product portfolio and worldwide branch network for this demanding field at the world's leading trade fair for the medical supplier industry and product development. In hall 8B, stand H04, SMC experts will present innovative products in the fields of cooling and temperature control, precision pressure control and handling of aggressive media.
Staying cool, while saving space
Efficient medical technology must always be at just the right temperature, because many medical preparations require a constant processing and storage temperature in order to maintain their efficacy. The especially compact new thermo-chillers in the HRR series maintain temperatures between 10 and 35 °C, precise to within ± 0.1 °C – using water or air cooling. And they fit into 19-inch frames. Several of the units, which are only 310 millimetres high, can thus be easily installed in confined spaces and thus save a lot of space compared to comparable stand-alone units. Service and maintenance are also easy with the HRR series: All the access points to the thermo-chillers are located on the front. This means that they do not have to be removed from the rack when the particle filter has to be replaced, for example, or the circulating coolant has to be topped up – saving both time and space.
Compressed Air Control Industry - 4.0-ready
The digital networking of production has also long since arrived in the life sciences sector. That is why SMC is equipping its digital precision pressure switches, series ISE70/71, with IO-Link technology. The smart sensors register parameters such as current pressure values up to 1.6 MPa, the status of the switching output, and important diagnostic information and error messages to the higher-level PLC. The two-line display of the precision pressure switches can be rotated by up to 336° and display setpoint (limit value), hysteresis value, maximum or minimum value and delay time, depending on the user's requirements. And in the event of a power outage, the ISE70/71 series reliably backs up its collected data thanks to its persistent memory.
Robust even against aggressive media
In addition to steam sterilisation, aggressive media such as chemical disinfectants are often used for disinfecting medical equipment and production facilities as well as for dosing chemicals. SMC has developed the 2-way diaphragm valves of the LVP series for such harsh applications. With their rigid PVC-C housing and a polytetrafluoroethylene diaphragm, they withstand even corrosive media such as hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide. The compressed air operated valves are easy to adjust, have 50 per cent less water hammer than conventional valves and can withstand media and ambient temperatures between 0 and 60 °C without any problems.
