New SMC remote control valve brings smart speed adjustment to pneumatic actuators
New from SMC is the PFES Series electric speed controller, offering remote control of pneumatic actuator speed with a simple and compact design. Ideal for installations where access is restricted or puts operators at risk, the PFES Series enables safe, efficient adjustment of actuator speed without the need for manual intervention. Of course, the PFES is not limited to pneumatic actuator speed adjustment and can also be considered for the control of air blow or gas purge flow rates.
Simple electric control
Replacing traditional manual flow controllers, PFES uses an electrically operated needle valve to regulate compressed air flow. Operators can send open or close signals from a remote location, making it possible to adjust actuator speed in clean rooms, guarded machinery, or elevated installations—without entering the machine area.
The PFES controller is installed like a conventional flow controller, but its electric motor allows for straightforward control via “UP” or “DOWN” signals. Once the desired setting is reached, power can be removed, with the valve retaining its position to ensure continued operation without energy consumption.
Efficient and safe speed setting
PFES helps reduce commissioning and maintenance time by allowing multiple speed controllers to be adjusted simultaneously using a single remote signal. This eliminates the need for manual setting on each unit and avoids inconsistencies between machines.
The valve’s grease-free construction also makes it suitable for sensitive applications, such as direct air blow onto products, where potential contamination must be avoided.
Manual override and power-loss resilience
During machine commissioning, PFES allows manual adjustment even if electrical controls are not yet in place. This flexibility speeds up build and setup processes and ensures that local adjustments can still be made if needed.
In the event of power loss, PFES retains its last set position, maintaining pneumatic function without requiring a reset or homing procedure. Manual adjustment remains possible, ensuring continued control even in challenging conditions.
Digital-ready performance
PFES offers a straightforward all-in-one control solution that does not require complex drivers , controllers or software. Mechanical engineers can easily integrate the valve into existing systems, supporting digitisation and automation without the need for specialist electrical expertise.
The PFES Series from SMC delivers a smart, safe, and efficient alternative to manual speed controllers—enhancing productivity, reducing risk, and simplifying pneumatic control.
