Enhance your machine safety with SMC’s new safe exhaust valve VPX for high flow applications

Enhance your machine safety with SMC’s new safe exhaust valve VPX for high flow applications

SMC introduces the VPX safety valve, designed to handle larger pneumatic systems. The valve is developed for emergency stop situations where pressure must be exhausted, and it protects against unexpected re-pressurization. With a built-in soft-start function, the valve also provides machine protection against sudden, cylinder movements that can damage the machine when restarting the exhausted systems.

For maximum functionality:

  • Dual-channel valve concept – one single fault does not compromise safety

  • Certified according to ISO 13849-1, up to PLe and SIL 3 according to IEC 61508:2010 – can be installed as a safety-related part of the control system in compliance with above standards

  • High flow capacity – up to 15,000 l/min (ANR) ensures rapid evacuation of hazardous energy that system pressure may represent

  • Soft-start function as standard – prevents uncontrolled pneumatic movements during startup, reducing the risk of machine damage

  • Equipped with a pressure gauge port – enables visualization of outlet pressure and/or integration of additional diagnostics with digital pressure switches

The VPX is modularly designed for easy assembly together with SMC’s air preparation equipment and connects via two M12 connectors. An integrated LED status display provides immediate visual feedback on valve operating status, in addition to verification through the control system.

“This safety valve is a welcome addition as it both complements and upgrades our range of safety products,” says Fredrik Edholm, Product Manager. “Machine safety is at the top of SMC’s agenda, and we provide our customers with the right products, we bring expertise in the field, and we engage in safety discussions with our customers, which is extremely important,” he concludes.
