SMC launches IP66 bar‑type ionizer for washdown and dusty environments
Global automation specialist SMC has expanded its static control portfolio with the launch of the IZSW10 Series, a new IP66‑rated bar‑type ionizer designed for reliable performance in dusty, humid and washdown‑intensive environments. The IZSW10 combines high‑speed static neutralisation with long‑range capability, selectable ion generation modes and a hygienic, easy‑to‑maintain design.
Engineered for harsh environments
Static control in food, beverage, pharmaceutical and general automation settings is often compromised by airborne dust, moisture and frequent cleaning cycles. The IZSW10 addresses these challenges head‑on with a fully dust-proof and water‑resistant enclosure (IP66-equivalent). When powered off, the bar can be safely washed, while its smooth, rounded body prevents liquid accumulation and supports hygienic machine design.
Durability is further enhanced by stainless steel metal components and tungsten emitters, while a safe‑touch design prevents accidental finger contact with the emitter area. For improved visibility, operators benefit from LED indicators visible from two directions, enabling quick status checks even in confined installations.
High‑speed and long‑range static elimination
The IZSW10 delivers impressive performance across a wide range of applications thanks to its selectable DC and Dual AC ion generation modes.
- In DC mode, the ionizer achieves static neutralisation in just 0.2 seconds at 100 mm, making it ideal for rapid‑response applications such as packaging, film handling and component transfer
- In Dual AC mode, and when combined with air purge at 0.5 MPa, the IZSW10 provides long‑distance neutralisation up to 500 mm, with a discharge time of 0.9 seconds.
The optional air purge function significantly boosts performance by increasing the static neutralisation distance by approximately three times compared with airless operation. This airflow also helps to reduce emitter contamination, extending service life and maintaining stable discharge characteristics.
Consistent ion balance and reduced maintenance
To ensure reliable and even static elimination across the entire bar length, the IZSW10 incorporates both Auto balance and Averaging functions. These features keep the offset voltage within ±30 V (Dual AC with air purge at 300 mm) and compensate for emitter wear or contamination, helping to extend maintenance intervals.
Maintenance is further simplified through:
- Replaceable emitter cartridges (airless, high‑flow, middle‑flow and low‑flow types)
- Maintenance detection output
- Optional cleaning kit
- Flexible piping options, including one‑sided or dual‑sided air supply and a choice of stainless steel or EHEDG‑compliant fittings.
Compared with the previous model, the IZSW10 achieves a ~14 % reduction in discharge time around the emitter when using the high‑flow cartridge at 600 mm.
Compact, configurable and easy to integrate
The IZSW10 is available in five bar lengths —400, 580, 760, 940 and 1120 mm— covering applications from narrow conveyors to wide web processes. Depending on the length, the unit weighs between 0.87 and 1.44 kg, supporting easy installation on lightweight frames or moving equipment.
Electrical integration is straightforward thanks to the 24 VDC supply, NPN/PNP I/O and functions including ion generation stop, maintenance detection, high‑voltage abnormality detection and alarm check.
